Reasons to Join
The Chamber of Commerce of Huntington County promotes and supports the local business community and provides a forum for their concerns. This includes helping existing businesses to function and solve any challenges they may be facing.
Challenges such as environmental concerns, taxes, codes, tax abatements, and other issues facing the business community can be addressed by the Chamber with local, state and federal officials. The Chamber staff consists of two professionals to assist businesses with these concerns and other business needs.
From providing marketing data to area research information, the Chamber has a wealth of knowledge at its fingertips to help member businesses. The membership includes respected businesses dedicated to the advancement of civic, commercial, legislative, and community development interests.
Each member business’s name is promoted through the Chamber’s Business Directory, and in the annual Program of Action. The distribution of these promotional devices covers a large variety of consumers.
The Chamber keeps the business community informed of business related activities through the website, Facebook pages, monthly newsletters, weekly Chamber Notes, and communication with the local media. Huntington County Coffee Connections, the Business EXPO, and Chamber After Hours provide businesses the opportunity to promote their services to the community and to network with other business professionals.
The Chamber hosts a networking group that meets on the third Monday of each month at 12 noon. The Chamber also hosts the Huntington County Coffee Connections which meets on the first Wednesday from August through May with the exception of January. The gathering is held at the Habecker Dining Commons at Huntington University at 8 a.m.
The Chamber encourages the creation of new business and provides the resources to individuals involved in this process. These resources may include connections to the Indiana Small Business Development Center which meets in the Chamber office monthly. The Chamber is also a SCORE mentoring branch office.
New investment is necessary to the local economy. Working with the City and County of Huntington, Huntington County Economic Development (HCED) and Lime City Development, the Chamber and its staff are part of the county-wide effort to bring new business to Huntington County.
This effort also includes employment awareness opportunities through WorkOne and ongoing education efforts through the Huntington County Community Learning Center and Life Long Learning. Chamber members participate in the annual Career Day at Huntington North High School, educational seminars, wellness and fitness seminars and support the Work Ethic certification program through the Huntington County Community School Corporation.
Chamber members also have the opportunity to network through community involvement. The Chamber oversees and organizes all the activities for Heritage Days and encourages new volunteers to become a member of the steering committee. We also manage the Farmer’s Market and help each year with the Veterans Day parade and celebration.
Packets distributed to businesses and residents looking to locate in Huntington include Chamber members’ names and pertinent information. The Chamber Bucks Program is also exclusively for members. It helps to promote shopping locally.
